Quite frankly, I think very few people would be fooled by those, even if, they are subsequently sold on as "original" by idiots.

It does state on the listing - “The reproduction NEW badge is in brand new condition. The reproduction Aged badge is made to look etc”
But as you say someone at some time may offer this as an original.

RNAS & RN Cap Badges

Just spotted this one. Note all badges before 1922 showed a red "gem" to the centre of the crown. Also note what looks like a Petty Officer's badge, but with a red "Gem" in the centre is a Chief Petty Officer's badge. Up until 1922 Petty Officers wore bell bottoms and a "pork pie hat.

Hi John
Yes, prior to 1922, Chief Petty Officer's wore what is now a PO's badge, with the red jewel. That is when the wreath was added to the badge for CPO's.
Cheers,
Alex

Further to the last. The badge currently listed on ebay and attached to a hat appears to have a blue jewel instead of red in the centre and is therefore not a genuine RNAS cap badge.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW1-Royal-...30ea%7Ciid%3A1

Correct.
The badge is not even in one piece, the crown has been added on, you can see how it overlaps the wreath.
Shocking.

It appears to be of very recent manufacture and completely spurious.
Interestingly, there is another on offer for twenty quid more!

I have emailed the seller of the cap plus badge to say it is not genuine. The reply is as follows:

Thanks for your message...

Your concise language got straight to the meat and bone of the matter without fluffing up the message with banal politeness - well done.

We will make a note of this for our manager to check up on when he gets back from holiday - we get lots of messages on all manner of different antiques (we stock 10s of 1000s of items) and doing research, getting verification, updating the listings etc are all very important to us, so we will investigate as you advised so generously. We do have to maintain our quality service with clients that come into our "bricks and mortar shop" however, as well as maintain our excellent ratings on eBay and other antique shopping portals - so do expect a delay before any update occurs. Rest knowing that we endeavour to be as accurate as possible when writing our listings - a company is not able to build a good reputation that spans over two decades by trying to pull fast ones on the customer.

Thanks again then, have a jolly day,

Spencer - writing on behalf of the Antiques Storehouse

Perhaps best not to hold your own breath.
