Mess Dress (reduced size) bullion embroidered badges are normally purchased from military tailors.
Bullion embroidered wings for No1 Dress are NSN coded and issued. MOD procure bullion badges from many suppliers. Most are hand made so variations exist. Tim |
For Number 1 Dress they are issued through the system. The Mess Dress badge is Private Purchase through the various Tailors or sometimes Regimental Association Shops.

So basically everything without the dark blue bbacking (blues dress)is fake.

Quote:
As a matter of interest most officers embroidered beret badges do not have NSNs. for example the Intelligence Corps. An exception is the badge of the Corps of Army Music. NSN: 8455-99-811-2685 Description: Insignia, Beret. Officers and Warrant Officers. Corps of Army Music. Cloth. Hand embroidered. Gold on black. Crown above lyre within laurel wreath. Tim |
Unless things have changed (again) very few Officer badges are MoD supplied and have to be purchased. Even those with an NSN, should be paid for.
