Badges help please
 

New member looking for help.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction over the first badge with the enamelled W and 50 on it plus with the grenade collar badges, I am pretty happy with the Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers difference but what is the one with the Marine motto? Royal Marine Artillery? And for all 3 what sort of period are they from please?

I believe 3 (and 5) with ubique are Royal Artillery officers' bronzed collar badges.

4 - a guess from the design and motto (by land and sea) Royal Marine Artillery.

Simon, Please help me understand the difference, because to me 3 and 5 look the same. I have never really understood the difference. I have also seen a smooth cannon ball version and figured it was Engineers?

No 4 is a Royal Marine Artillery Officers Service Dress collar badge, worn from approx. 1918 to 1923

Terry the Artillery have 7 Flames, Engineers have 9, you will see the extra 2 just above "Ubique" can't remember just why but will come to me, if not another Forum member will give it to you, cheers billy

The Royal Engineers have an additional two flames at the front above the grenade and the Royal Artillery does not. So they have 9 flames and 7 flames respectively above Ubique.

I would like to see an album featuring all the varieties of grenade Arty and Engr collar badges. As well two sizes of officer pattern, there are also two sizes of the really small Australian OR badges.
It has never been clear to me just why the larger officer collar badges were worn in Australia post 1948 with both 'Ubique' and 'Australia' on the scroll. I have assumed 'Australia' was changed to 'Ubique' after 1952 but may be wrong.
