WW2 NO 4 COMMANDO OFFICERS CRACKED SKULL SILVER CAP BADGE

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124945667...cAAOSw9ZdhYzss

I saw this on Ebay and just assumed it wasn't going to be right.
I would appreciate comments
Legit or bad feelings?
Thanks a lot.

It is not one of the Oryon miniatures made for the collector market?

Not original - but please excuse me not disclosing why - fuel for fake makers.
Wrong in a whole lot of ways.

I dont know why it is a fake ie. how much it differs from an original, but I think the lack of any patina in the eye sockets is a dead giveaway to the age

As I said I believe it’s the Oryon badge which has been purposely ‘altered’ to deceive.

Note the same shape and irregularities to the inner borders of the IV. Also the nose is quite a distinct upside down heart shape.

The eBay badge has had the slider removed and by the looks of it the reverse scored with a drill to produce those vertical striations, presumably to conceal it’s true identity and remove all traces of the slider. Lastly some wire loops have been soldered on and it’s been aged up.

The reverse of an unaltered Oryon badge can be seen here…

My tuppence worth as a non-SF collector.

I was once fortunate to handle an original the collector got it from his father who was the gardener of the 4 Commando Officer there was also a
Desk top Silver cigarette box with the same badge afixed to the lid.

Hello Michael
I believe the cigarette box and badge featured in a Military Historical Society article many years ago. From memory, it was treasured by the daughter of the first CO of the unit. A lovely attributed item.
Regards
Mike
