Indian State Infantry Badge??

I'm dropping this in here because I don't know what / who this badge is for.
I am guessing it's an Indian State Infantry badge but ......

Any thoughts?

I don't think this badge belongs to an Indian infantry unit: not one of the regular IA units and doesn't have the 'look' of a State Forces badge.

OTOH, the wreath surronding a set of letters is very British Indian, though it may not be unique to India. I would guess a corps or department, perhaps government but not military: police, customs, etc.

I think the letters are 'I' 'D' and 'S', but the only thing which leaps to mind is 'Indian Defence Staff' and I'm not even sure that was a thing in WW2. :(
