Hi All,
I thought some of you might be interested in this helmet I spotted on our local market this weekend. I'm no expert but something doesn't seem quite right to me. The stall holder was asking £180 for it. Michael |
Its a modern helmet, a Bandsmans version.
Probably OK, but a bit modern for my knowledge. regards |

A 'modern' Blue Cloth Helmet for the Band and/or Corps of Drums of the Queen's Regiment. Probably from the early 1970s when Bands re-introduced versions of Full Dress including Blue Cloth Helmets. Helmets and badges were not 'issue' items but obtained from band funds from a variety of sources. These included using pre 1914 helmets with various badges 'put together' on helmet plates from Pakistan.
Helmets and helmet plates are now 'issue' items. See my Album https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...hp?albumid=625 also M AZAM & SONS products https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...p?albumid=4318 Here is a helmet plate from the King's Regiment Corps of Drums 1970s but with QVC. Tim |
Thanks everyone, that's really interesting.
I thought the seller had been out with a tube of superglue making it up, I had no idea this was done. Every day's a school day. Michael |
I have not seen that helmet plate before different from mine -on and off blue cloth but as said could be early band item I have a large number of band plates +9 modern band helmets
There is a large variation in the plates e.g the D & D has Q V C /K/C /Q/C + a couple of others not on backing plates Not sure why you would require 2 chin straps |
