A few recent finds from the 2019 Show of Shows
 

For those of you not familiar with this show it is presented once a year in Louisville, Kentucky by the Ohio Valley Military Society. In a word it is "Huge" almost overwhelming. I attend every year to sell a few things but mainly to "roto-till through dealer tables and offerings.

From a British badge collectors viewpoint it can be feast or famine. It is at this show that I can see the volume of reproduction British badges that have silently filtered into the U.S. market. No real specialists to speak of but a number of dealers with bit's and pieces mixed in to their other offering. There are a number of British collectors and dealers whom I recognize that make the trip every year.

So this year I purchased a nice grouping of cloth items that had come out of an older collection here in the U.S.. Much wire embroidery and large sleeve pieces. Here is one item from the group. QOCH ??.. Looks to be a later Victorian era piece. Quite large as referenced by the ruler shown. Unsure how this was worn exactly.

A beautiful badge, but QOCH?

More likely to be the Royal Scots or Royal Highlanders.

At 6" in height it doesnt seem to have been worn on the headdress or uniform.

Possibly of a shabraque?

Absolutely stunning!

Never cease to be amazed at what turns up thousands of miles away, especially in the Americas.

Afraid I don’t know anything about the badge but the design and motto straight away made me think of the Black Watch, but that’s just a guess. Hopefully someone will give you a definitive answer.

I would suggest a Black Watch item as well, Motto and with Stan drew in the centre, does lean towards it.

Whether I'm correct or not, I echo other comments, a marvellous item.

This dates from 1826-1837ish, B (Benjamin) Fox the maker was in partnership with John Pitter c. 1808-1826 so post dates this having attained royal approval during that partnership. His Majesty on the label being either George IV or William IV.
Most likely for the 42nd Of Foot (Black Watch as others have said)

Jack,

The large QV Crown is a rank badge. Used for Sergeant Majors and also above chevrons in that large size also.

The Lion & Rose is a Forage Cap badge for the KORR Lancaster

The 3rd prize badge I have seen before (not necessarily that year) and I havent been able to put a positive ID on it.

The '4' may refer to a Team of four for shooting or the like. Its a nice badge.
Thinking about it I am sure it was in the collection of an American gentleman that dies at the end of last year that I used to swap badges with that a lot of people on here knew but I am sorry to say I cannot immediately bring his name to mind. You probably know who I mean.

These badges could be out of his collection as I was offered them some time before his death and bought quite a few but others worked out a little too expensive. There was a lovely Black/Green/Red KRRC Colour Sergeants arm badge that I particularly wanted.

Yes these pieces are from Garth’s collection. He passed away quite suddenly in September last year. The KRRC badge is still about and hopefully negotiated on soon.
