Here's a photo of a soldier of the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars during World War 1.

A good photo showing the various insignia being worn.

Source: Queen's Royal Hussars Museum Facebook page.

Enjoy!

Interesting that collar badges are being worn. Not the norm for that period. Was it a regimental style, or an affectation for the photo shoot?

Plenty of Cavalry regiments wore collar badges during the period. I have a list of which did and didn't somewhere, but currently not to hand I'm afraid.

Best,

Elliot

What is the source of the list you make mention of please, it does sound a rather odd list to make.

It's a list I have created and is part of the research I have been doing into the distinguishing marks and insignia worn by the cavalry during the Great War period. Not too sure what to make of your comment on it being odd though...

Okay, it would certainly have been rather odd if it had been created by the War Office, notwithstanding, I would have thought that a number of individual members of every regiment wore collar badges, depending upon where exactly each particular man was actually serving prior to July 1919.
