HM prison cap badge question

1 Attachment(s)
G'day

A friend is putting together a prison officer uniform from the time he served in HMP Risley in the 80’s.

The picture is of some of his kit he still has.

What he’s looking for is the cap badge.

Can any members please tell me if the badge he needs is white metal, chrome or staybrite.

I know nothing about prison badges but would guess it’s the chrome version he needs.

Also if any member has a spare please PM me.

Thanks
John

Hi John,
Looking at the items he has I would say that with the exception of the key chain none of them are from the 80's period but from the 90's.You are right in thinking the badge from that period is the chrome W/M version.Various makers J.Gaunt,Firmin,Dowlers and London Badge Company.

G’day Bantam

Many thanks for your reply.

I’m not sure what year he served only it was before he came to Australia.

He has recently won a chrome badge on e-bay so I can now tell him that is correct for his uniform.

Many thanks
John

Just out of interest, who is your friend? I was at Risley 1977-2001 so I am sure to know him!

John,

The Small Auxilliary Officer epauletts you show in your image we're introduced in the mid 90's they were not popular and larger epauletts were re introduced for all ranks.

Officers did not wear the A ( only Auxiliary Officers did) officers had just H M Prison Service on there epauletts.

The cap badge worn on the black peaked cap re-introduced about 1988 if memory serve's me well is the same as worn to day chromed star surmounted by a crown with blue enamel circlet.

I away from home so can not post an image at present.

Regards

Stephen
