Help ID Regiment and Date Photo
 

Morning All,

I'm hoping people can help throw some light on this photo, it was in the back of the paybook Terry (Home Guard) was asking for help on.

The lady's father was was in the Duke of Connaught's Battalion pre WW1 and at first that was who we thought this might be however now I have seen this clearer photo I really don't think it is.

Terry had originally thought this could be her husband during WW2, I'm starting to lean that way now as well however we know nothing about him other than his name and that they married in 1973.

Can anyone throw light on the unit based on the shoulder title and other badges, dating it would be a big help as well?

If anyone knows about medals they may also be able to help ID the ribbons, are they WW1 or WW2?

Her father was in the Duke of Connaught's for about 10 years and then joined the RFA in 1915, could this be her father in a WW2 home guard uniform wearing a long service medal then his WW1 pair? I don't think it will be as he would have been in his 60's by WW2 but I'm just throwing ideas around.

Am I right in thinking that could be a div patch and arm of service stripe under the title?

Sorry, I'm not sure what the other insignia will be.
If the image can be "lightened" it may help identify the medal ribbons.

I've had a go but I'm not sure how much it helps, however I don't know medals.

Hopefully someone will recognise them.

The medals look like a standard set of 4 WW2 medals to me, ending in a Defence medal.

Would that mean it was late WW11 or post war as he is wearing all the ribbons? I think that battle dress was worn until 1946/47 ??

So that would rule her Dad out meaning a boyfriend or husband.

She only had one brother, he was in the RAF in the mid 50's and a Sgt by 1964. I would have thought that meant he was RAF during WW2 rather than army and then switched service at the end of the war?

Definitely battle dress with Duke of Wellington's Regt as per the title scan attached. There is a suggestion of a formation sign underneath.

The BD is the Austerity pattern worn with a collar and tie which, with the medal ribbons suggests a date of late 1945/early 1946.

So that makes me think this is either her future husband or a gentleman friend.

Maybe she was attached to the Duke of Wellington Regiment during the war, I presume the ATS were attached to infantry as clerks etc?

The other thought I have, due to the square nature and size of the picture, that it might be some kind of ID photo. There is nothing on the back of the picture to help us.
