He is wearing an RAF Chaplains collar badge on his lapel, strange as he is associated with Chatham dockyard.

Thank you, that is the reference that I found where he is described as a Champlain. I think that means that he was the best performer in the Chaplains' League that year. It was very close though and came down to the number of home goals conceded.

Yep thought it might be one you were aware of - I was tempted to take away the "m" but thought, well, that's what the ref says.......
