Hi All,

can't resist showing my latest purchase - MMG silver sweetheart. Stunning enamel work, maker stamped CJF which I believe stands for Charles James Fox and is stamped sterling silver. Paid too much money, but I've never seen another like it...

Hi

A very nice badge using "painting enamel" to achieve the effect and detail.

This is much thinner than the normal vitreous enamel, which is closer to fine salt in texture. Many Masonic jewels use this technique.

Many of the larger makers of these types of badges employed women as it was felt that they had greater attention to detail.

This badge will also be found, no doubt, with other crests painted on it as it would have been a stock "blank". The "engine turned" background is typical of some Continental enamel work (Faberge was a great user of this effect).

I have an MMG sweetheart brooch but it is one of the tortoiseshell and silver rim variety. Like you I paid too much for it. Yours is in lovely condition.
