RNAS observer / pilot insignia
1 Attachment(s)
Hi ,
Yesterday I picked up a mixed selection of badges and insignia. Included were these flying insignia. Initially I took the two eagles to be those as worn above flight sergeants stripes or worn on side caps. The winged Os had me for a while but eventually I identified them as having been worn be Observers in the RNAS post 1917. That led be to think that maybe the eagles were the RNAS equivalent of pilots rank insignia. I have never come across the crowns with wire fittings - was this significant in any way ? If my logic is correct, I should be very keen to see photos of this insignia being worn. Can anyone help ? Regards Mike |
lovely find !!..the eagles look like rnas issues , the crowns added for cuff insignia in 1918 when changed to raf.
