Hi All
What are these please? They are the same size as the officer's side cap badge but a facing pair.
Thanks, cheers,
Alex

I recently acquired a photocopy of the July 1917 AM Order on Dress for the new RAF.

Under rank badges for Warrant Officers First Class it specifies for the khaki uniform then still worn "Gilding Metal Eagle and crown [worn] below the shoulder". At around the same time I bought the attached photo on Ebay which shows such a badge being worn.

Could that be what these are?

Yes they were used for the WO I rank as well as being worn above the rank tape by Officers in the khaki uniform and, initially, on the blue uniform. Worn with eagles facing the rear. As shown in pic. They can be found in gilding metal, gilt and bronzed.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the info, I'd looked but couldn't find anything, so that's a nice surprise! Is there any value to them? I just picked up two pairs, one a fairly close matched pair and another unmatched pair.
Cheers,
Alex

A matched pair is very good and sought after by collectors. The unmatched pair a different story. The one flying right is identical to the Officers and WO I FS cap badge and because of this many are sold off as such. The one flying left is the rarer version some ending up as sweetheart badges for instance. Ebay sometimes has them selling singly as FS cap badges, which they are not. As for value you would have to look on some dealers sites as I have had mine for many years but the fly left version is still sought after on its own.

Hi JT
Brilliant, thanks! Is that an embroidered wound badge above the eagle?
Cheers,
Alex
