Gordons a/a sealed pattern
The medal auction house Dix Noonan Webb has listed a set of sealed pattern badges, including one to the Gordons (BY DAND) dated 3/3/66. It's countersigned by Smith & Wright and Ludlow in in 1967. I seem to remember there was some debate on the forum about the Gordons a/a badge, but what exactly the problem was eludes me. Thought I'd point this out just in case it's of interest.

From what I recall discussion was as to the variation being an issue badge, some thought not, although one forum member stated that while he was in the army he'd seen the badge in stores.

It was to do with "BYDAND" and "BY DAND"
|
Yes, the "BY DAND" variation.
I have a note of the forum member's comments filed with the badge, just not sure of the name without checking. |

Thanks button.

My standard pattern for the Gordons dated May 1966, with the one word BYDAND badge. Between 1985 and 1991, this particular card being issued out to manufacturers;-

And purely for interests sake, my anodised Gordons set, including the odd makers error gold example.
The only maker marked example I have is Firmin, but they were clearly made my the majority of the well known anodised alluminium badge manufacturers |
Mind you, I say the DNW listing is the two-word version, but that could be just my perception. Certainly there seems a wider gap between the Y and the D than between the other letters. I have one of these in my own collection and I've always assumed it was the two-word variety.

The only thing I qiuld say is that when you look at the badges, the 'one word' and - 'two word' variations, are very obvious.

The two togeather.

Many thanks for the comparison shot, Marc -- the difference is clear.
