Did LCpls wear the arm badge pre 14?
 

Did LCpls of cavalry, specifically Hussars, wear the regimental arm badges prior to the war? It is my understanding that they were worn only by NCOs, the Lance rank being an appointment only.

There is a 21st Lancers Photo 1905 in Linaker & Dine on page 18 showing L/Cpls wearing the Regimental Arm Badge. I didnt progress past that photo so I would say your answer is Yes they did in some so why not Hussars too.

I've a photo of the 3rd Dragoon Guards, taken around mid 1890's, the L/Cpl's are wearing the POW feathers arm badge.

Thanks for that. I cannot seem to find any photos of Hussar LCpls wearing them though. Is it possible that it varied according to the regimental custom?

No, there are Hussars photos wearing them in Linaker & Dine

There is a late 19th early 20th century photograph of a group of 13th Hussars O/Rs in various orders of dress on pinterest showing a Lance Corporal in undress frock, single chevron on right arm with roughriders trade badge above

I am not sure of this, but I think the 13th did not have an arm badge?
If Linaker shows LCpls with them, then they did at the period in question.
