Whats next ?

I see on the news that, despite what seems to be incredibly high visitor numbers, that the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry is under threat of closure. The National Railway Museum at York was also mentioned as being in a similar position.

Makes you wonder what is the future for those regimental museums that have managed to remain open. Does everything come down to money in todays world ?

Hello Peter,

It's not so much down to ' money ' but the lack of money but do not despair, there is enough, apparently, to think about awarding our Members of Parliament a ten grand a year rise , and all the Bankers can pick up their bonuses , so it's not all bad........................is it ???

It goes with the territory . . !

As an observer of British commerce it always seems that those who do least get more thought of them and are paid more money, I am surprised museums are not better funded as they are full of old things that appear to do very little.

Dave and Rob,

Great comments.

Was it Sir Winston Churchill who said we ignore history at our peril ?

He certainly said " The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see "

It does seem we are becoming less interested as a nation in our history.
