Royal engineers "Hate" Belt - Modern

It seems as if the modern British soldier contines to wear "Hate" belts.

This is for sale on ebay:

I have no connection with the seller.

Wonderfully practical, anodised aluminium badges?
Some with sliders protruding below the bottom of the belt.
I suspect the badges would be put on the belt merely for display purposes (years ago I had a giant black neck tie made up to display a hundred or two police tie tacks for the kids).
The Greek badge - Greek Cypriot National Guard?
I have a similar badge without the white dove affixed to my old hate army note pad.

I knew a bloke who put his old cap badge on his tool box - I suppose that's a hate army tool box on planet eBay.

Hate belt

Can anyone please tell me why an English belt covered by English badges is called a “hate” belt , just what does anyone hate?

I hate the term "hate belt".
An Americanism?
Presumably it sounds more warry than "souvenir badge belt".
It's just a term that's become the norm.
Personally, I would think a "hate belt" proper would be festooned with body parts of enemy dead - ears, fingers, gonads, assorted titbits of offal, a kind've jerky?

The listing does not use the term 'hate' at all!
