Looking for info on this large medal ribbon bar. Thanks Kevin |
Medal Ribbon Bar
Hi Kevin
From left to right: 1939-45 Star Africa Star (8th Army) Defence Medal War Medal 1939-45 Territorial Efficiency Medal A quick search via Google will give you the background to each medal John |
Have a look on here: http://www.worldmedals.co.uk/Rib/britribb.htm
The first four (from left to right) seem to be quite straightforward: 1939-45 Star Africa Star (with 8th Army clasp) Defence Medal War Medal The last one however, I'm not totally sure about - have the colours faded at all (what are they like on the back)? For my money though, I think it's the Efficiency Medal (for time served in the Territorials). HTH, Kevin |

Not quick enough on the draw today... :D |
All I can add is that the absence of an Italy or France and Germany Star after the Africa Star suggests possibilities such as a prisoner of war, sufficiently wounded to take no part in the war actively after 1943, or discharged.

Hi Gents,
Very quick replies, and I can confirm that the centre colour of the ribbon in question is green and conforms to the TA efficiency. I doubt I will ever be able to unpick the conundrum that Staffsyeoman has posed with his observations...……... Thanks all. Kevin |
Kevin
I have a group with the same medals and it is to a Staffordshire Yeomanry Trooper wounded in North Africa, returns to UK and did not serve overseas again. Regards Stephen |

Medals ephemera of Trooper Leslie William Salmon of the Staffordshire Yeomanry born Stafford 1915 ,he was wounded in action on 9th February 1943 on the Tunisian Border According to Regimental Diary, 1 man was killed a second wounded (Les) he returned to Stafford post WW2.
Kevin the same grouping as your medal bar with proven History Regards Stephen |
Hi Stephen,
What an odd coincidence, how likely is it that this combination would be mirrored in another soldiers WW2 service? Very nice presentation, I did something similar with my Grandfathers medals and badges. Yours would look nice with an original 5 Bar medal ribbon...…...;) Keep safe Kevin |
Kevin
Funny I was thinking the same thing Regards Stephen |
I like the construction on the back. Not so common fixing system.
