Hi! Can anyone help with a positive id of these anodised aluminium sphinx over EGYPT collars? Approx 31mm wide. Thanks! Mike.

Hi Mike, i can narrow it down some what for you. Im pretty sure that they are either 1st pattern SWB or 1st pattern Gloucesters.

Slightly off topic I have a pair of Lancashire fusiliers A/A collars why are they not expensive like the cap badge ??

Regards

Alan

Thanks Mike H. I'd discounted Gloucestershire as I didn't realise there was a pattern in a/a prior to the sphinx over EGYPT with wreath. I'll put them with my a/a Gloucs badge for now as I don't think a SWB a/a cap badge will be dropping into my lap any time soon! Thanks again.

Hi Alan. No, a/a collar badges don't seem to have much currency, but then, that's one of the reasons I like to pick them up where I can - the price. Having said that, I think it was hantsreg, had a lot of pairs of early and more obscure a/a collars up for auction a few months back and I was quite surprised at some of the prices they were fetching - £20 + for some pairs as I recall. I'm not a collector per se - I get them to display with cap badges - so I guess a different field of collecting with a different set of rules? Regards, Mike.

Alan,Lancs fusiliers wore the generic flaming grenade, the same as the RWF.

Although, if you really try, you can pay quite a lot for them. Also worn by the Royal Munster Fusiliers apparently- in anodised alumium? - now that would be interesting!

Hi chaps
yep, I concur - first pattern Gloucestershire Regt.

Other aa sphinx collars are seen with The Dorset Regt and as stated, first pattern SWB (although both of these are of differing design sphinx).

Regards all

Bess

I know this is late but they are Gloucestershire Regiment and very rare.
