Trade/Qualification badge
 

No image available but a British World War 2 qualification/trade badge worn on Battledress: an Upper Case letter K with a wreath. Perhaps Army Kinematographic Service?

Possibly Cook Royal Marines - C in wreath being used for Clerk.
Cooks branch was established in 1947 and a badge would be worn on Battle Dress.
This is the current issue. Now known as Caterer.

This is the badge in question…as can be seen nothing to do with Royal Marines….

The badge looks like it could be WW1 production.

What I also find odd is a Senior Rank wearing a trade badge, yes I know there are a few exceptions...

My suggestion of ‘possibly Cook Royal Marines’ was based on the brief description without benefit of a photo and knowledge of the other insignia on the Battle Dress.

I would agree that it looks more like WW1 vintage and so possibly a ‘one-off’!

I have this one which remains a mystery, it is much larger than most letter in wreath badges and is gold wire on khaki, it has a very old feel about it.

A complete shot in the dark, could it be a "King's Commendation" type of thing?

Seeing the 'Pioneer Corps' titles , is it possible that it is not a "British" trade badge ?

I'm the owner of the jacket and badge discussed in this topic.

So far no conclusive answer or evidence has been found but two very experienced collectors, or authorities on British badges being Jon Mills and Robert le Chantoux believe it to be a trade badge for the Army Kinematograph Service.

A query will be published in the next edition of 'The Formation Sign" hopefully some results will follow.
