WW2 Armoured odd bod

Any ideas about this one, please? I'm willing to accept that it might be a fake -- the two different colours of thread on the back are certainly unusual, although it doesn't 'feel' like one of the obvious fakes in circulation. But if so, why a fake of a patch that doesn't appear to have existed in the first place? It didn't cost me anything, so there's nothing riding on it except my curiosity!

hi
although Keith is the man to answer this question i have a few like this.
i think its good, manufacturers variation and i think its 2/11 aust armored car.
i may even have the same or opposite side to this one. all mine are boxed away at the moment but if i get a chance will dig them out
looking forward to others opinions

Definite fake, a take-off perhaps of early Commonwealth Clothing Factory patches where the tank was just a lozenge shape without the little drivers box on top. Meant to represent 2/11 Aust Armoured Car Regiment.

The give away is the back, two different sewing machines used, the stitching does not meet at the corners. Note that the blue and green are sewn together so the tank shape would have been sewn to this, and then the whole patch sewn to the grey background using one identical run of stitching right around the patch.

If the tank shape had not been sewn on until after the green/blue had been sewn to the grey background then it might have had a different coloured run of stitching showing on the rear for the tank but not two totally different machines, types of cotton, and colours to sew on the one-piece blue/green.

I have previously seen others in this configuration, this might have been one of them.
