City Imperial Volunteers Buttons
 

I have read the section in Ray Westlake's "The Territorial Battalions" on this unit, it went overseas as one Infantry Battalion, two Mounted Infantry Companies and one Battery of Vickers Maxim quick firing guns.

The Infantry sailed in 3 contingents from Southampton between 13th and 27th January, not sure if that included the Mounted Infantry or when the Maxim Battery sailed?

It was drawn from existing London Volunteer Battalions and totalled 1.000 men.

After its return did the men return immediately to their original units or did it exist as a complete unit for a period of time?

My reason for asking this, there are two very different buttons, who in this unit wore them and at which period?

This may be the answer, the "CIV 1900" button was worn on the greatcoat, and the "London Arms" button on the tunic?

Which would mean that both were worn in South Africa at the same time, can anyone confirm that please?

I had the same description of these from Keith Hook - one size for the greatcoat button and two sizes for the Arms pattern.
