Prussian Pickelhaube Spike - Legit or Repro

4 Attachment(s)
Hello all,

Thanks again to those who helped me solve my query about my great uncle's cap badge.

I know this is not cap badge related but can someone help with this Pickelhaube spike.

I've been informed that it is Prussian possibly pre-ww1.

Is there anyway to know if it's original or a repro and which country and era it is from?

Hope someone can help. Much appreciated.

I think the bumps around the base are called a pearl ring and were used on officer's pattern items. The four point base is not usual so may indicate something/ unit- that's my limited knowledge on the subject. Regards, Paul. -Try this site. http://www.kaisersbunker.com/index2.htm

Picklehaube spike.

It seems to be partly an m1860 pattern spike for a Prussian nco or one year volunteer going by the perlring ,gilding and spike style. Not an officers. It seems to have been made into something else perhaps a theatrical prop as i have never seen stitching holes added to the spike base arms which usually only has the four holes for the ornamented rivets and that tube badly welded onto the base would be a positive danger if the guy was ever struck on the crown of his head ! Interesting though and salvageable as a spare part. All the best Andrew
