Yet more cavalry caps
 

Thought I might as well include the rest of my regular cavalry officer dress caps.
In no particular order: Blues & Royals, QDG, 5th DG, 13th/ 18th Hussars, QRIH, 17th/21st Lancers, 9th/12th Lancers, QOH, QRH, Royal Dragoons & 16th/5th Lancers.

I am assuming the 17/21L Cap has the standard Firmin Motto in it seen below?

Silver Plate (Looped E/W)
NSN 8455-99-130-3056

.... there is an elusive Hallmarked silver version, that has an embossed "FS" in the lower scroll hallmarked for the early 1970s, that is out there in a collection/family somewhere.

I haven't removed it from the cap, but it is an officer's silver or silver plated motto.
I also have an officer's service dress cap for the regiment, with the same type of motto.

Usually worn with the hair at the back in firm contact with/ overlapping the jacket/ tunic collar.

And whilst eating a Mars Bar? Or was that purely an infantry subaltern thing?

To be fair, not in church, in which, or outside, on Remembrance Day, the hairy cavalry officers proliferated.
Fortunately, the army had their own Mess, to which they went.
The RAF, clean looking, clean collared, went to their own Mess for Jazz and Curry family lunch.
