RCAF 601 Squadron?? Air direction?

OK, here's another patch I have to ID before flogging it if you're able to help. It's a tall jacket crests and seems to refer to 601 SQN, the RAF mob but I can't decode it. Is that an Air Direction reference at the top? Tel for telecommunications, telephony?? Would the chain links refer to a radio chain? This one's really got me stumped. It appears to be of 1950's vintage, perhaps a bit later.
Thanks for any assistance. Monkey |

I think it might be 601 Telecom Squadron. They were in Europe in the early-mid 60’s and moved from 2 Wing to Metz. You can find another crest here:

Oops, I guess Walt and I were writing at the same time. I also noticed an exact example of your patch from George Bignell at the same resource, on a different page and dated June, 1958:

Thanks.
You guys don't miss a trick. Thanks very much.

In the RAF, AD usually refers to Air Defence. In the communications (Comms) world the chain represents the ability to pass information, unbroken, from one end to the other - as used in this example.

Hi
I somehow missed this thread but good to see. My Father was 601. :) http://www.c-and-e-museum.org/groste...1sqn/601-1.jpg http://www.c-and-e-museum.org/groste...1sqn/601-1.jpg I have his Sqn Curling Team jacket somewhere in storage. It has an entirely different patch on it. I'll see if it's handy. Thanks again. regards Darrell |

The one on the left. That's the one for me even though I haven't got a clue what it is.

Hi Guys
It's a 1946 Jaguar Mk IV, I believe. Dad bought it from a returning-to-Canada fellow Airman for $50. About a year later, Dad loaned it out to a buddy for a weekend Leave and he promptly wrecked in Paris. Totaled. :( *I still have about 5000+ photos to go through from my parents house!! Many from my Dad's Career 1952-91. 601 RR 601 TR 601 Tel Which was it? regards Darrell |
Hi
Could a Mod please move this whole thread to Canadian RCAF topic? Don't want to lose the info. regards Darrell *Thanks |
