Is this a fake ?

I am always a little wary of British badges because of the extensive faking that has taken place over the years ( sorry, maybe that should read, " the production of museum quality replicas !) Fortunately the quality of these newly minted items is often poor and they give themselves away. However sometimes one finds an example that could be ok but there is a nagging doubt. I have just one such item. The front of the badge looks great ( as they usually do) and the slider looks ok ( no attempt to to add a well known maker name ). It is solidly made , but ......
I wonder if a cavalry badge expert can give an opinion ?

Not an "expert", but it looks fine to me.

Thanks, CB
There aren't too many British Cavalry collectors over here so its great to be able to to get some experienced opinion.

With that style of construction it is relatively late. The overlaid solid backed 10th Hussars scroll is probably post WW2. I used to own an identical one with a large 1950s JRGaunt London font on it. The earlier ones had a tagged scroll and a brasing hole behind the crown.

the style of feathers is correct and is noticeably different from the short and dumpy fakes usually found on ebay.
