As part of the "activities" for the week the CWGC have introduced a new search facility which allows you to put your postcode into their data base and it will give you the names of any "neighbours" that were killed in the two World Wars.

Great link Tim , I put in my current postcode and discovered that someone who lived almost directly opposite my flat had served in :

102nd Bty. Royal Field Artillery in WW1 and is commemorated on the Delhi Memorial (India Gate).

Think it will be a bit ‘hit and miss’, just tried the postcode facility and apparently the nearest casualty lived about 7 miles away from mine.
The one who lived just down the road from here, and the one who lied about 400 yards away, aren’t acknowledged.

Interesting ‘pro active’ idea though.

I did wonder what sort of data mining they had to do to input all of this information - given that modern post codes weren't introduced until about 50 years ago - so they must have had to do some clever link with the soldiers home address as kept on their records - but given that lots of records were destroyed in WW2 I'm sure that it can't be entirely comprehensive or accurate - but an interesting inter-active facility none the less.

While doing some research into Australian Overseas Muntions Workers I accidently ended up on a site that listed munitions workers who had died .

The site linked to the CWGC and details of their graves plus some had links to other information. When I checked on one worker I discovered he was buried in the same grave as two other workers.

I never knew that this group of "War Workers" were commemorated by the CWGC , you learn something new every day.
