Quicktrain or Quick Train

Anyone remember the subject code word for mobilisation/action in BAOR to bring British/NATO forces to readiness to confront any Warsaw Pact aggression. Regularly transmitted in the late '60 as a 'practice'.

Yes QUICK TRAIN (until the mid 1970s?) and later ACTIVE EDGE

I remember well Active Edge and crashing out of camp in Detmold BAOR never nowing how long we would be out in the field,

Combat kit permanently parked and ready to go to fight the Russians in their
T 80 Tanks BMP's etc

BAOR was recently discussed in parliament as Active Service on a par with Ireland, during the ongoing debate of a National Defence medal being issued.

Do others remember the Air Raid Sirens being tested on Saturday Mornings.
I never got dressed that quickly again!

Sincerely

I have happy memories of an Active Edge in c 1976 or 7 when our seniors were all at a big bash elsewhere and 45 Med Regt deployed with the Adjt in command and all the batteries commanded by a captain. It was a regimental test rather than a higher formation outing and had been set up by the CRA and CO.

About 80% of are 'Active Edge' all outs were the start of an exercise.

Marc :)
