18th Light Horse (Adelaide Lancers)

2 Attachment(s)
Two members of the 18th Light Horse Regt (Adelaide Lancers) at a camp in the Barossa Valley, South Australia, sometime pre-WW2. They wear the 1930s pattern high-collared tunic with crimson (I think) facings, the white square colour patch with square blue centre (Glyde #464), and shiny collar dogs. The man on the left has a single service or good conduct chevron, while the one on the right sports a braided white lanyard on his right shoulder. He also appears to be wearing elastic-sided R.M. Williams style riding boots!

Thanks, Mick. The photo studio was in Nuriootpa. Every time I see it I want to go chasing all the insignia for the 18th LH (not to mention a nice glass of red!).

There isn't that much to chase. All they had were a hat badge, collar pair and colour patch.

Easier said than paid for! Besides, I've only ever come across the patch once, and that was on an officer's tunic at an auction in Adelaide. I was the under-bidder.

The colour patch is much harder than then badges to find.

The badges are probably some of the easier Light Horse ones from the 1930-42 period to find.

I think one of my New Year's resolutions should be to make a concerted effort to finish off putting together a collection of Sth Aust militia and CMF insignia. Oh my poor wallet!
