Help with service history - a WW1 Hussar

Looking for help with the service history of a WW1 veteran please.

Albert Percy ALEXANDER

Family information is sketchy but he was apparently serving in the cavalry in France in 1918 and in Cologne (with the Army of Occupation) in 1919.

Possibly born 1879 (although that would make him 39 or 40 at the end of WW1). Perhaps a recalled reservist?

He was possibly in the 18th (Queen Mary’s Own) Hussars.

Any information appreciated.

Hi Tim,

Ancestry doesn't have a lot on him. Regimental number 36286 20th Hussars.Entitled to british war medal and victory. Also a note saying 5th RCR which I think is Royal Canadian Regiment ? Don't know how that would fit with what you know...

RCR does stand for Royal Canadian Regiment but there was only one battalion during the Great War so no 5th RCR in the CEF.

RCR = Reserve Cavalry Regiments I believe.

Thanks all for the information so far. If a Boer War veteran (18th Hussars) and born in 1879 then perhaps it is him and a recalled cavalry reservist.

Is it possible to see an image of the Medal Index Card?

A little more information from the family:

Here is an undated photo of Albert Percy ALEXANDER. Clearly a cavalry man and not a youngster? The cap badge could be one of the various 18th Hussars type but not 20th Hussars?

His place of birth was possibly Littlebourne near Canterbury, Kent which fits with Mark’s post number 7.

A possible address for his wife during WW1 was 60 Constantine Road, Hampstead, London NW3.
