I have seen various badges described as Dartford Grammar School. Cox shows a picture of the common fat horse ebay fake (lots on ebay as Kent Cyclists or yeomnary) but I believe this is one of his mistakes.

They certainly wore the West Kent horse and I have a text from the late 30s that describes them as wearing badges easily mistaken for the yeomanry's.

So 3 options:

1. It was the Yeomanrys badge design together with Roman script.

2. It was very similar with the Roman script but from a different die.

3a. It was a Gothic scripted horse the same design as the RWK as worn by the Kent Police.

3b. It was a RWK badge with the scroll cut away.

I would love to know if anyone actually has a attributable one. I recently found this CCF cap badge which replaced it afte 1947. I am now trying to date the change over from the Invicta horse to this CCF design if anyone can help. The CCF was still in existence in the 1950s and believed to have closed in the late 60s.

I was in the DGS CCF until I left school in July 1967 - this was when the CCF was disbanded. It was the same year that the then headmaster Mr RL Hudson retired. The CCF presented him with an armchair for his retirement to the Cotswolds. It struck me as rather odd at the time but later when I heard the CCF had been disbanded it must have been done to dispose of whatever funds were left.
Later, there were issues with missing kit - I got a phone call asking if I had any!

The first photo in post no4 relates to the Rifle Club which I understand was some sort of precursor. The officer in the middle row who helped set it up is from the RWK. Here is some detail.

The second part of the above with a letter from Lord Roberts regarding military training (OTC). Dated 1908.

Thanks for those great photos. It's the Kent horse in the caps but whether its the RWK script or the Yeomanry script scroll remains unknown.

The 'raised hoof' design is also found on Kent Fire Service insignia so until a photo of a Dartford cadet turns up then this design remains unattributed for me.

DGS OTC was a relatively large unit which existed for 30 years so their badge should not be that scarce.

This picture is from the Professor Charles Thomas collection which was auctioned in 2018 and shows the button as well with both rear hooves on the ground. His collection was one of the best OTC collections but was not 100% accurate.

This hat shows the raised hoof cap badge. It is being sold not as the OTC but an officers' cap for the Kent Cyclists.

I think that badge is actually the East Kent Rifles as the 1st VB Buffs prior to them wearing the dragon badge in the Brodrick Cap.

The CCF from 1955 wearing the post war CCF badge. The drums feature the horse and whilst the ropes obscure many the far right one possibly shows the raised hoof.
