Can anyone advise how to tell good from bad on these badges ? ie RBL as opposed to copies.

Cheers, Mark

The new logo badge I'm not sure about , it is larger than I thought it would be and 'confusing' !

It looks like they have removed the "British" part of the title , at a first glance it seems to be R Poppy L or even R.O.L!

Regarding the new RBL logo badge , someone in the supermarket asked where I got the “Ralph Lauren” remembrance badge ! :D

RBL Riders

The RBL Riders Branches have a lot of badges produced which they usually sell at their Rides/Rallies etc. They have made various 'biker' and 'commemorative' (what I term "Poppy Head" ) pins .

Possibly due lockdown/covid I guess their outdoor activities have been restricted and they now have some of these pins available on-line from the RBL Riders Store.

NB. Each year the Isle of Man also produce/sell 'biker' Poppy Head pins but theirs have the traditional RBL poppy with leaf.

I chuckled when I read that...some people are unbelievable.........then again, if it helps to sell the poppy badges it might be worth giving it a try.......I can see it now...an RAF poppy badge could be advertised as ‘a Renoir Alfresco Francini’ poppy! The possibilities are endless!
Cheers

A 2010 Poppy pin with leaf at 10 o'clock just sold for £22.00.

As far as I'm aware this was not an official RBL issue for the following reasons :

1. The first official dated poppy with the leaf on that side was in 2011 and the leaf was at 11 o'clock.

2. It is slightly larger than all the other official single dated pins (2006 - 2013). Also , it is smaller than the later official double dated pins (2014 - 2018).

3. It has the criss-cross back similar to other unofficial/fake 'dated' pins.

But....... there are quite a few of this pin around !

The same seller has , over the past couple of years , listed 41 with bids varying from £3.00 - £150.00 and most selling for an average of £19.00.

Good or Bad ? These may have been made 'unofficially' for a branch but I can't see the RBL or Branch officials sanctioning them.

I have seen one or two of this '11 o'clock' pins and have always avoided them as I have found proof of their official or semi official production. In 2010 most branches purchased the bags of 50 undated pins for resale. This was the last year of the '2 o'clock' Poppy Pin.

3 Years Service Pin

Picked up this unusual poppy pin , possibly a 'special' produced for one of the branches . Its overall size is about the same as a double dated one , has a clutch pin fitting and a smooth back with no makers name.

I would have expected a 5 year award but it may have been for Cadets etc in thanks for their service during Poppy Week ?

Another twist to this post , the poppy with the leaf was originally advertised by Sainsbury's :

The British Legion was formed on 15 May 1921, bringing together four national organisations of ex-Servicemen that had established themselves after the First World War:

The National Association of Discharged Sailors and Soldiers
The British National Federation of Discharged and Demobilized Sailors and Soldiers
The Comrades of The Great War
The Officers' Association

Hi Mike

Hope all well with you.

Seeing your line up of badges caused me to think of an organisation that crops up from time to time called The Silver Badge Party.

A bit of digging around suggests that they were semi-political and I would also imagine that their "badge" was....the Silver War Badge!

Logically, would that suggest that, no badge, unable to belong?

The package was mailed on 1st February and we feared it had been 'lost' but Canada Post and the Royal Mail eventually came through !

This gift is yet another example of the kindness and generosity of forum members who have sent me items , my thanks and appreciation go out to you all.
