Had a look through the forum and to the un trained eye everything looks the same.

Look fine to me the die flaw bottom right of sphinx tablet is a good indicator.

Tony, would all BW badges have that flaw at the Sphinx?

Thanks,

Terry

No - it is one specific die.

Home Guard 31-07-20 06:35 PM

Thanks Alan, that means might be a good one. One of my old badges I got back in the late 90's. Probably need to post it to be sure.

May be of interest, I've had two of the badges illustrated in the opening post, both of which were magnetic!
Tony.

Hi Tony

This one is non magnetic ?

These badges are supposed to be made from White Metal i think, which is non magnetic, so could this die have been used to make re strikes ?

Also if a die had a flaw in it wouldn't it have been replaced or destroyed, you see the other WW1 Black Watch badges have no flaw (a new die)?

Mark.

Here is my Black Watch badge. I would appreciate any thoughts on it please. It does not have the flaw mentioned on the one above, which is why I ask.

Thank you,

There was more than one die used. Only one had the blob under the sphinx.

Home Guard 01-08-20 08:39 PM

Thanks Alan, does that mean mine is a good one?

Terry

Hi Terry

Your Black Watch badge has the word "LACESSIT" mine is spelt "LACESSET"

Looking at pictures from the Gallery your badge appears to be a WW2 example???

Mark

Mark, good catch! I just checked my Doyle and Foster for WW2 and it shows it spelled with an "I", so you are right, it is WW2.

On a different note, re your alias name, I knew he fellow who bought the fuselage cross from Richthofen's plane when it was put up for auction back in the 90's. It was very cool to see, and I took several pictures. If I can locate them I'll send them to you if you'd like to have them.

Terry
