Ajax AFV

Todays tabloids make for depressing reading, vehicles that cannot be driven over 20mph, guns that cannot be used on the move, crews that feel sick, obstacles that present problem if higher than a few centimetres.
Still never mind, I dare say the MOD must know what it's doing, perhaps it is all media sensationalism?

Alas is just another event in the FRES programme incompetence and mismanagement. The FRES program was over-ambitious and grossly un affordable and was reduced down to fewer variants of which the Scout (now AJAX) is the sorry result. The millions of pounds spent on staff officer wages alone over the last 2 decades is a scandal. The UK's AFV fleet procurement is a disaster that competes with all the other recent procurement fiascos to be the worst. The heart of the problem is that the programs take so many years that no one is in post at the start and finish so no one is accountable.

Is this an updated Warrior, or is it a totally new designed vehicle ?

The Warrior enhancement Programe has now been cut and it is being replaced by the wheeled Boxer. As it is a proven in service vehicle delays should hopefully be minimal.

Boxer is the same programme that UK PLC spent millions of £s buying ourselves out of the partnership circa 2006 because we were goingt o spend the money on FRES and boxer was judged to be too big. Oh the irony.

Warrior was " Proven ", should have carried on with the upgrade of it IMHO. Boxer, a waste of money...........

The Royal Australian Armoured Corps has gone with the Boxer CRV.

Yes its large but feedback from serving soldiers is good. It's a much needed replacement for the ASLAV. I know the person who was one of the senior public servants who approved them and she told me that it's performance and technology was one of the reasons it was accepted into service.
