Can anyone please confirm i.d. of the attached cloth badge? Would the C signify Communications? Is badge obsolete?
Thanks

OM(C) Operator maintainer (Comms)

Formally know as
Radio Operators (RO) c.1995 - c.2005

Now known as
Communications and information systems (CIS) c.2005 - present

I thought the symbol in the centre was for Weapons Branch.

OM(C) Operator maintainer (Comms)

c.1995 weapons branch and all seaman branches amalgamated to form the Operator Maintainer (OM) branch. Jack of all trades, professor of none. They still kept the WE artificers for technical stuff.

so we had
OM(C) formerly Radio Operators RO(T), RO(G)
OM(MW) formerly Mine Warfare (MW)
OM(EW) formerly Electronic Warfare
OM(AWT) formerly Radar Plotter (RP)
OM(AWW) formerly Gunners
Seamen Specialist stayed the same.

c.2005 the RN did almost a 180 and segregated Weapon Engineers (WE) from seaman branch.
The Engineering branches became Engineering Technicians (ET)(WE)(ME)(AE). This incorporated the artificers and mechanics.

Regards

Ian

Note. I was Royal Navy 1970s
On shift tonight with Phil, Royal Navy 1989 - 2013 who supplied most of the information

Thank you for explaining that. Your post also explains the gaps in RN Dress Regulations.
