How old, in general, are badges by this particular maker?

Some of the oldest Frank. Without looking it up ,I think there isn't a Timings badge you could date after 1970.

Okay, many thanks, that is good to know.

Referencing Hagwalthers book,he states that "Timings expanded its commercial activities as far as New Zealand in the early 70's" . So rather than 1970 I'd push that out to 1975. There's only a handful of badges to regiments that existed after 1970.

Has South Wales Borderers been added to the list of Timings named badges?

Hi Frank,

Some of the very first A/A cap badges were made by Timings and if given a choice are the ones that I prefer to collect.

Regards,

Chris

Hello Chris,
These certainly do seem to be the badges to buy as far as anodised collecting goes, many thanks.
Regards Frank

I saw that one on e..y Jack. SWB marked badges are hard to find, either the Dowler or Timings versions

Hi Mike,

Apart from my Timings SWB badge that I posted on here, that is the only other one I have seen. I would image they are quite scarce.

They crop up every few months. The most common is the blank slider version. The pattern card in the IWM collection is a Dowler badge.

Are you saying the Timings marked SWB crops up every few months or a/a SWB badges generally, as I was specifically referring to the Timings badge?

Hi Jack,

Do you have a good image of the Timings mark and slider of your badge that you can post here.

I never came across any Timings marked SWB badges when I researched my book and would like to check the slider design and also the Timings mark used.

As Mike said, the Dowler badge is the one in the IWM and if I remember I actually handled this pattern when I was given access to all their A/A master and sealed patterns a few years ago.

Beware, I believe the blank slider versions are Gaunt pieces made for a dealer in the 1980's which, in my opinion, are nothing more than cynical 'knock offs'. There is also a dodgy Timings mark out there and I would not be surprised if blank slider badges had been over stamped with this mark. However, such an action is relatively easy to identify if you know what you are looking for.

Regards,

Chris
