NSW Lancers riding crop owner?

In a recent thread I noticed that someone was able to trace people through Ancestry. All my research to date has not turned up anything about "H.G.Burgess". The riding crop could date anywhere from 1894 to the 1930s when the NSW Lancers stopped riding horses. He may have served in the Boer War or WW1, or only in peacetime, and could have been in the 1st ALH, 4th ALH or 5th ALH from 1903-12 when regional squadrons became separate Lancer regiments. Also 1930-42 1st LH or 16th LH, who all used variations of the elephant head badge. Any info would be appreciated.

Had a brief search through the Australian records with no obvious exact match, only three H Burgess for WW1 era, further searching may through something up. (These are free to use by the way)

Dear Simon,
Thanks for the research. I had a closer look, it is a definite G. It appears to be much easier to trace soldiers in wartime rather than peacetime. Would ordinary troopers use riding crops, or only officers? Kingsley |

I am certainly no expert in this field but I would imagine all ranks would have access to a riding crop, the question is whether this is an issued item or a presentation piece. Surely if this was an issued item his Regimental number or part of it would be on the item along with a Rank. Regards Simon |

It's also very possible that if he was a militia soldier during peace time then no records may exist for him. Mick |
No doubt he was peacetime militia, thanks.
