east african chaplains department
 

I bought a pair of brass shoulder titles recently but didn't know what they were other than they were east african circa WW2. A little head-scratching and I decided that EACD stands for East African Chaplains Department. Mr Google tells me that there was such a unit and I guess that it was made up of local clergymen who joined the forces.
Does anybody know anything about the EACD and did they wear the normal commonwealth clergy cap badges ?

East African Censors Department?

Hi Leigh,
I would tend towards the Chaplains Department. All these titles had a very "homemade"look ( as did many of the badges) and were probably made as and when required. I'm not sure that there was a Censor's Department as such.

An East African Censors Department existed during WWI apparently there are medals inscribed to and MIC entries to the department

That is a very useful index. I am often stumped by shoulder titles and end up consigning them to the "unknown "box.
With your EACD you have to make a call and one day you might see a picture of someone wearing the title. Personally I still like it for a Chaplain.
