So, so impressed with the levels of knowledge here... A tad intimidating to be honest! Could you please have a look at this "thingy" - obviously Royal Artillery - but what is it? Possibly a pipe cleaner or maybe a scarf pin? Hallmark says 1939 or maybe 1914 (hard to differentiate) - any thoughts guys??

Hi, it was once a shooting prize.

Thanks so much!

That makes so much sense in hindsight, thanks ever so much - BTW, your shooting prize is so much better than mine, I'm a tad jealous! Thanks again, brilliant response!

That's brilliant - thanks so much (makes sense now, what with the smellies on display). Gotta say though, your shooting prize is a lot nicer! Thanks again!

Is that a missing pin connection at the upper right?

I don't think so Terry, it looks like mild pitting rather than a missing attachment.

Hi again - thanks for the great picture - mine doesn't appear to have anything missing from the end, like a spoon bowl - the very point is crafted to include the SMLE muzzle, so it looks whole to me.

Half the length of the barrel is missing.

Thanks Gary, Yep - I can see that now, knowing what it is.

That is what I thought ...... lock , stock and two sawn-off barrels ! :D

Ha - by jingo, you are right - hadn't noticed that! So it could well have been a spoon at some time or other like the example kindly provided by Norfolk Regt Man! Gotta say, I'd need a bigger one than this for my porridge! Thanks all, you've been brilliant!
