Hi Loski,

It's great to see some modern Aussie SAS items. Thanks for these. My Australian SAS stable belt dates from the type worn in the 1970's and 80's. The insignia is smaller than the latest version. It is very faded - too much time in the sun? :)

Yours is the 1980s Hobson made version. The new version, now made by Platatac, is a reversion to the style made by Victors of Aldershot 1960-80s, as still used by the UK SAS.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for dating my one - that's much appreciated.

Thanks mark they are something that I have had a side interest in for a while.
There is a para reg and sas version of the Hobsons belt I’m not sure if they were official British Army issue tho.

Stable belts are not issued items. They are private purchase. The rules say that a unit cannot require anyone to buy such an item, but woe betide anyone who doesn’t buy one when its expected! The Victors pattern buckles were approved by the Para Regt and SAS in the 1960s. The Hobson versions came out in the 1980s but I’ve never seen one worn by either unit in the UK. The NZSAS bought a number of the Hobson versions and I’m told (but don’t know) that the Australian SASR used some of them in the 1980s before the Aussies stop using stable belts in the late 1980s/1990s. I understand that the Aussies are again allowing certain units to again wear stable belts now, hence the Platatac belt.

What Colin said, pretty sure Victors shut up shop in the 80's with DuBora's buying out their stock. Regards Mark

That is I think correct in 1980 I think as victors belts and berets were available from DuBoras from then.
