Hi Bill,

Grand idea. I'm assuming any period?

If so here are my four:

Prince Rupert Machine Gun.
215th Infantry Battalion.
4h Divisional Ammunition Column.
McGill Overseas.

Pics attached for interest.

Cheers, Roy.

Simon, That marking is quite unusual. Birks marks were usually on the actual body of the badge. Any chance of an image?

Bill A 23-03-15 03:16 PM

Roy, The McGill badge, what are the dimensions?

Roy 23-03-15 03:33 PM

Hi Bill,

Re the McGill - I have a set of cap and collars. The cap (shown) is 60mm width and 41mm hight.

Roy.

Hi Simon, That is a very unusual marking. Sliders were attributed to British made badges, while Canadian makers used lugs.
Does anyone else have badges with the Birk's mark on the slider?

cefguy 23-03-15 03:59 PM

Bill:
148th Btn collars, flat lugs "Birks"
225 Btn Sweethreart pin "Birks Sterling"
CE shoulder title "Birks 1917"
106th Btn Shoulder, "Birks 1915"
G/S cap badge "Birks 1915"
108th Btn Cap badge, gilt on silver, pin back, "Birks"
200th Btn Cap badge, gilt on silver, "Birks 1916"
4th DAC, "Birks 1916"
Signal shoulder, "Birks 1915"
203rd Btn Cap Badge, "Birks 1916"
148th Btn Cap badge, "Birks"
CFA Shoulder, "Birks 1917"
I know that there are other years of Birks G/S badges out there as well.

Just my opinion but I would hope not as its not been done by birks by hand and a set of punches but by a real berk, it would seem that the slider has been replaced from the look of it, again just my opinion.

manchesters 23-03-15 04:47 PM

Slider has not been replaced, just discoloured around the join.

David Tremain 23-03-15 05:42 PM

Bill, don't forget the silver Operations badges (wings) won by the RCAF for the completion of a tour (30 ops) etc. Birks was one of three makers.

David
