Middlesex Regiment, variant or fake?

I am in the process of reorganising some of my regimental boards when I noticed that there was a marked difference between one of my Middlesex Regiment badges and the others that I have. Is it poor quality control, a known variant or a fake?

The badge in question is the one on the right in the double badge photograph.

Hello
Highwood
Yes it is a variant. I have one in my collection. If you look at The Middlesex on plate 14 of John Gaylor's book that one is the same.
Regards
Neil

Thank you both for your comments. I will get my Middlesex Regiment album out and look to see if there are any photographs of this variation being worn.

Strange Middlesex badge

I have a similar shaped badge which was one worn by the 10th Btn.

Looks like this maker utilised a collar badge and added the scroll.

It is similar to one version of the collar badge (Churchill 1440) but noticeably larger and with different laurels at the base.
