Although they are probably prototypes or trial badges I offer these for general thoughts and comments from the forum, as I understand there is at least one each of these v rare AA cap-badges out there, already in members' collections:

• 1st Rifle Volunteers Royal Devon Yeomanry - Gold & Silver QC

Gents,
with regard to the Queens own Gurkha transport Regt in a/a, as per the above list.

Has anyone actually got an example of this badge that they can post an image of? This badge in reality - if it is out there - should not really be a rare item should it? I appreciate that there may well be documentation for its creation and use, but are we saying we believe that there was a limited run or limited issue of an ALL aa version of this badge, which makes it a rare beast? Its a modern (ish) badge and freely available in the bright metal now used.

Any thoughts gents?

S.Staffs ive heard rumours but never seen one. I may ask a guy who works at the museum.

The images that i saw Bess , looked as if the locating holes on the back had been drilled .
Ive seen the normal GTR scrolling, they are on 4 locator pegs to position the scroll correctly.

Forget about the first two but South Staffordshire [Tudor] was officially authorised - example on page 270 of your copy of book.

Derbyshire Yeomanry did get a CB. No of 3172 but went no further.

1st Rifle Volunteers Royal Devon Yeomanry - prototype at best; fantasy at worse. I go for the latter.

All those exist Chris, the South Lancs certainly isnt the collar. Its exactly the same as k&K 2001 .Slider marked Smith and Wright.

My question re the top 10 A/A badges certainly started a great discussion.

I had no idea that such small amounts of badges were manufactured, very interesting indeed.

Just out of curiosity, why were such tiny numbers produced for units that would need many more of these badges?

Possibly both then but official doco does state that the collar badge was to be used.
