Does anyone recognise this maker and have any information as to when they were in operation?
Thanks in anticipation.

Distinct possibility, as Jennens & Co have also used J&Co, I would imagine
the same to be true for Lambourne - I have the full name version but don't think I have any with the shortcut name.

I'd go for Ludlow.

I always think Liberty (Liberty and Co.) but the hallmark looks like the one for "L&Co; John Lawrence: "Ledsam Vale & Co." Birmingham" [ http://www.silvercollection.it/engli...ermarksXL.html ]

KLR has a similar view.
Bantam,
Da iawn diolch, a ti?
I'm not tempted with Lambourne as I've not seen any examples of Officer quality badges from them before. Of course now they'll be along like extra time minutes in a Heiniken Cup semi.

Tom,
Good call. Date wise I would go with Liberty & Co. However, did they in fact ever make badges or was it just tableware etc?
Ludlow still looks the favorite for the time being.
I will have to adjust my view on the date of the badge.
Thanks.

L & Co.

How about Ludski ? They made officer's badges.

Stephen.

Stephen,
Ludski has been suggeested by KLR, but I'm not sure the dates fit.
I don't have all the date info for Ludski and will have to look it up.

I didn't know what date you had in mind when I suggested Ludski, but now that it appears to be 1930s/40s I'd go for Ludlow (as Ludski's renamed themselves by that time !)

Julian,
I'm putting the date back on this badge as the lugs to the rear are the mushroom or 'D' shaped examples found on the earlier badges.
When I'd assumed it was a beret badge I'd not thought about having a smaller badge for the coloured side cap.
A trip to Brecon looms I fear.

Thought I'd bump this one up again to see if anyone has come across anything more definitive. The L&Co example is shown on the left up against a 1940/41 hallmarked Gaunt example. I've also shown it between a J&Co OSD on the left and a Gaunt OSD on the right.
Diolch,
Kevin

It's not here: http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/ My money would be on Ludski/Ludlow. Can you post a close up of the other marks as well?

Rgds, Thomas.

Thomas,
The other mark is just "STERLING".

Kevin

What I'm actually after is a known example of Ludski/Ludlow using the abbreviated form as the only examples of their mark that I've seen use the full name.
