Glendore Boarding House

Hi All

I recently acquired this rather unusual badge that was by all accounts handed out to naval and air force servicemen who stayed at the Glendore Boarding House Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape during WW2.

This is only the second one I have seen and is rather a well made badge incorporating both Naval and SAAF designs with a scroll stating Glendore 1941 to 45.

Any additional info would be much appreciated.

and to my Knowledge the Glendore Boarding house was in Kenilworth, Cape Town. Where did you get the PE info from? as maybe there was more than one Glendore

Alan Taylor from the SAAF Museum gave me that PE info.

There is an area in PE called Glendore close to the airport.

Would be nice if Alan has some concrete proof of the badge coming from PE Glendore and not that he made an assumption based on the fact that there is a suburb in PE called Glendore.

When I did my research, I found some records from the Kenilworth boarding house called Glendore was used as a rest for Airmen and Sailors. Not sure what I have done with the info I found, but if I come across it again, I will post it here.

It is dated 8th November 1944 and sent from Main Road, Claremont, Cape Town.

That is fantastic...definitely confirms Stevens claim that Cape Town is the home of these badges.

Yep, that was one of the references I found previously.

As for Glendore, PE, well I could not find any area except for the name of a road called Glendore. The homes along this road are all circa 1980's - 1990's except for one small holding that looks like it is from the 1950's or 60's, so I doubt there was a Glendore in PE during WWII.

Personally, I think that is a very cool badge with an awesome history. I just may have to look for one after reading all of this.
