Brass ARP Badge

2 Attachment(s)
Hi All,

I've just picked this ARP badge up and was told that the fact that it's made in brass indicates it's a 1938 pattern.

Does that sound right?

It's the same size as the more usual silver and white metal version.

The badge was designed and first issued in 1937 in hallmarked silver so the date of 1938 has little significance.

Also 1938 hallmarked silver badges can be found and I have never seen a brass one.

Traces of the original silvering remain on the back. This badge was made in brass and then coated with a silver plating.

Looking at the recesses on the crowns reverse was yours perhaps silver plated originally? Most of which is now gone.

Thanks a lot everyone, I hadn't heard of them being plated, so does this help date it at all?
