Hi Jerry,

Not with my notes but looks like an early pre-lug example.

Regards,

Chris

Again, very nice indeed, Jerry.

Thanks again Chris and Frank. I was very lucky to fond this one for a very sensible price, along with a hand black painted para on lugs.

Nice badge Jerry. Theres an image in "modern british army regiments" of a Pioneer with beard wearing a cap rather than the beret. I dont know what year the cap was dispensed with.

Is the J.R. GAUNT B'HAM four "rivet" slidered version a post mid 60's private commission?

As far as I am aware this is one of the early standard issue types, a nice badge Leigh

Ta, I thought the RWF slidered were a single batch produced in the 50's, which would discount the Gaunt B'ham mark.

Perhaps either of the Chris's can answer that about the dating of gaunt B'ham better than I can, I know there was some debate about it being 1970's but for AA I think it is earlier. I can only go by what I have read and might have it wrong, but Chris Cunliffe's website suggests this is a good badge unless I misread it.

It made sense to me to purchase it at the time but I've forgotten why.
From previous postings re. the Gaunt B'ham mark on anod. al. it looks like it goes back to around 1962-64.

Another variant of the RWF on a slider by Firmin. A longer slider and a different orientation to makers name but otherwise all good I assume. I'll check if anything is mentioned in No Bull on the sliders etc.

After digging out the first example I have, it confirmed that the slider has been bent to make it appear shorter than it is in comparison to the new pick up.

Hi Jerry, Mike, Leigh.

Late in coming to this. The badges shown are good, the earlieast date I have for Gaunt B'Ham is 1966. This is from official doco re: The Queen's Regt. as written up on pages 49 and 160/161. However, it may well have been used earlier than that although I have no official doco, pattern cards etc. to bring it pre 1966 and I only work with official documentation.

Regarding the sliders - The two badges in post #11 look the same in regard to sliders. Jerry, difficult for me to tell as I would really need to handle the badges and you will have to measure it with some decent calipers but it looks like Firmin 2.1: Tombstone (Wide) (A) on page 63 or possibly Firmin 2.5: Asymmetrical (Flattened Tip) on page 64.

Regards,

Chris

Chris, you are correct on the Firmin sliders, one Tombstone and one Asymmetrical. I finally own a copy of No Bull.....and could look them up.
