can someone show me what badge would be worn on a George V forage cap for a field grade officer of the RASC, I assume it is white metal and enamel?

I havnt got one, but I believe its gilt rather than silver, with red and blue enamel.

a better pic of the cap, it has some interesting features, the small metal clip to hold the chinstrap at the front, an added strengthener to hold the front up and it is made by Flights LTD

It'd be good to complete that one.
Is the stiffened hinged?

it is a very fine cap, pre 1936 so well worth restoring.

the stiffener is not hinged, seems to be field made. I have some hinged examples but they tend to be earlier, though the practice continues into the 20's, possibly later

I had to remove a field made stiffener from a Guards interwars OR's service dress cap (and keep it bagged with the cap) - it was carefully made from a bit of orange box type wood riveted to a piece of leather wrapped around the crown wire and was wearing a hole through the fabric, same problem with a 1950's or 60's one but I've left that alone as the damage is already done.
I say a field made stiffener - my father told me that caps were set up by the battalion tailors.

a shame you have had this problem. This one seems fine, it still has the crown stiffening wire ring in place.

added a GVI badge and chinstrap to it

Looks good, and a nice, wide, chinstrap with a bit of age to it.
