Welcome Steve.

No idea about the badge but searching the forum for Robertson Rifles this thread appears and may be of relevance https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...bertson+Rifles

Hi Steve
Stunning badge. It's quite a scarce one from South Africa. I don't think the unit was long lived and probably didn't survive into the 20th century. From Robertson just outside Cape Town.
I would be interested if it doesn't fit your collecting sphere.
Cheers,
Alex

As Alex Rice, says, this unit was not long-lived. The Robertson Rifles (or 'Robertson Volunteer Rifles') were formed on 22 January 1890, became 'F' Company of the Western Rifles on 1 January 1893, and disbanded on 30 June 1901. This appears to have been the original badge design. They later had one with a bugle horn in place of the thistle.

They were formed to defend the citrus fruit growing areas of SA as everyone knows that the British Empire could not function without marmalade

Robertson Rifles

Matti,

I think you'll find out they ended up in a jam somewhere. The CO got canned, and the RSM lost his bottle.

Stephen.
